Driven by Ideas rather than Tools: Looking for the Poetic in the Mundane
Moritz Resl is creative director at Media Apparat in Vienna. His work ranges from visual identities to interactive installations for clients like the MIT School of Science, The Prodigy, WIX, MIT Press and Wienerberger and is included in MAK — Museum of Applied Arts’ design collection. He co-designed the official Austrian contribution to the 2021 London Design Biennale and was part of exhibitions at Ars Electronica, Triennale Milano, Expo Dubai and Vienna Biennale. He designed Kat Mustatea's VOIDOPOLIS with Process—the first AR-book published by a major publisher (MIT Press). Resl worked for Sagmeister & Walsh in New York City, where he designed for clients like Adobe and The Jewish Museum in Manhattan. With Stefan Sagmeister, he designed the artwork Traffic to Nowhere—a bespoke set of traffic signs with no inherent meaning. In 2015, he co-founded Process — Studio for Art and Design—an experimental design studio with Martin Grödl and was partner and creative director until 2024.
Moritz was guest professor in Visual Communication at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, taught at New Design University, University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland and gave talks at international events like FORWARD FESTIVAL, OFFF Festival, Graphic Days Torino and EDCH Conference.
Resl holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Vienna University of Technology and a Master’s degree in Art and Science from the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
